My '93 Ruby Red just turned 49,000 miles on the factory original 17 year old tires. They were hard and noisy but they look fine and the rims are spotless. So I set them aside in the garage and put on some replicas.
The car is a rare Z07 and 40th Anniversary. The stock 13" rotors that come with the Z07 fill the large wheels just fine. The rear wheels are 18"X10.5".
The wheels don't stick out at all. The car already had these large mud flaps when I got it so lets put them to use! I also added a transparent top from Coastal Corvette in Mims Florida. It's perfect and really opens up the car.
looks good but mannnn that thing needs to be lowered. then youll be set
I'm pretty much 'over' the lowered look. I like it for Mercurys but sports cars and muscle cars should look athletic. Smashed cars with or those with the camber out of whack doesn't do it for me. The wheel arch gap isn't as much when you view it in person because you don't bend down to look at it like I did for these photos.
From one Ruby owner to another . Looks great! Glad you got those old tires off the car. That was a accident waiting to happen.
It's surprising how good they look. You wouldn't know their age by looking at them. But the new tires are so much quieter, smoother - it's like a different car. Plus I added a new transparent top. I have a 69 Firebird convertible with 60k miles that I last put tires on in 1989.
When I bought this car a year ago I wanted a 6 speed roadster and couldn't find one that wasn't burnt up from sitting in the sun. This one had hardly ever been outside, so I bought it. I had to install a new optispark so I put in the MSD, water pump, plugs and wires. Then I had to rebuild the AC compressor and fix the Bose. So now with a new top, tires and wheels I've spent what I could have bought a mint 6 spd roadster for.
Very nice car. The wheels are really pretty. Don't worry about a coupe or roadster. At least if you travel, you can take more than a change of underware.
