Default 87 vs late 86

.. gota a couple questions

need to know if the cam is the same as far as profile ( know the 87 is a roller)

is the chip in the 87 the same as the 86.... or do i need the 87 chip if i use the roller cam

here is the situation

bought the car was an 86 late model...motor was shot..

found a n 87 short block roller cam.. need to know if i can run the roller cam setup (stock) with my 86 computer... and 86 chip?

if not.. ill get the 87 chip.. but if it the same then im set..

also.. just for my reference anyone know the cam specs on the 86 and the specs on the 87

The springs are the same but rockers and push-rods are unique to the roller.

You don't mix the '86 rockers and push-rods with the '87 roller hardware!

so your saying i cant use the pushrods i have.. (no problem)

im not using stock rockers... i have aftermarket full roller rockers i want to use.. still 1.5 but would rather use them? is that ok?

ur saying the spring pressure is the same for the roller and non roller setups? i find it hard to beleive that.. but if your saying thats the case.. anyone conferm? i allways though roller had to be stronger to hold the roller lifter onto the cam...

Spring pressure is more related to cam lift which in your case is the same on both

Roller pushrods are shorter (7.200" ) vs flat tappet (7.800" ) on account of the taller lifter

They will work. You need to be sure they dont hit the valve cover. Sometimes the valve covers need to be modded for rollers.

You can squeeze those with Chanel Locks for clearance, if you have to.
