Ok,..I've had my Vette for about a week now and I still can't get the keyless entry remote to program. When I picked the car up I found a remote in the console. It didn't work, so I assumed a dead bat. I replaced the bat,..still doesn't work. So I posted here last week about programming it. Got the same procedure from a couple of you guys.
1) Place remote out of range of car, preferebly about 20ft away.
2) Place key in ingnition, turn on.
3) Press the Trip/ODO twice.
4) Within 5 seconds press and hold the Fuel/Info button.
5) One person said hold it for 10 seconds, another said 1 minute. I've tried both.
6) The PKE light should come on.
7) Turn key off but do not remove.
8) Bring remote into range.
I cannot get the PKE light to light up in the drivers information center. As one person said, even if the light doesn't come on, still try to program it b/c the light may be burnt out. Still no go.
I got aggrevated with it and just started to look the whole car over good, just checking it out. I pulled the cover off the fuse panel on the passenger sid eof the dash behind the door. Their was a little fuse laying in the botten of the fuse comparetment, and no fuse in the PKE slot. The fuse laying in there was the proper amp and was not blown so I put it in the PKE slot. Thinking this was definately my problem.....I tried everything again,...in every combination possible. I still can't get the PKE light to come on. Is there anything else I can check? What is the best way to diagnose the PKE system? Is that the only fuse for the system?
Robert u need to do some more isolating since u only have one FOB.....get another FOB that u know works from a friend...etc and also try your FOB on their PKE system......so that u can know if it is a FOB issue or a PKE issue, that u r dealing with.
I sent u some scanned pages on the 94 PKE system operation.....crossing my fingers u dont have a xfer limit on file size.
If the bulb is not burnt.....it will flash DTC codes.....but if it does not...oooowellll...it could be time to tear up the dash and replace the bulb, but then again that would bring him back to a possible bad PKE computter or the wire leading to the bulb is broken.....etc.
Lets just say wire is broken (no light), possible good PKE computter...then the FOB could be bad.
Possible bad PKE computter (no light)....then the FOB could be good.
Pray your PKE light turns on when looking for DTC's...or u have friends with PKE on the Vette to isolate.
Don't know if this was mentioned, but I would pull the seat cushions look in every possible hiding place for another fob. This happened to a guy a couple of years ago....Just a thought..... :boxing
Similar thing happened to me when I bought mine. I assumed the Keyfob battery was dead so put in a new one. Still didn't work. Then when removing the new battery I noticed that the little circuit board inside the fob was cracked in half - rendering it trash. I never would have noticed without looking closely.
So had to buy a used Fob here in the forum. Now it works great. Just thought I would mention in case yours was "stepped on" like my original was.
Good luck with the diagnosis.
