Default I'm comin back

sold my 68 vert 2 years ago on this forum and have strayed into fords....withdrawals are now overwhelming and I HAVE to buy another vet....my question is:
Can anyone briefly described the differences between the 1997 through 2000 model C5s....or at least refer me to some reference materials? I'm mainly interested in, if any, engine performance changes. Body styles look the same to me. thanks in advance

Well - to point out the obvious, you posted in the C4 section. All is not lost though.
You have your coupes from 1997 to 2004 and your verts from 1998 to 2004. They made a hardtop only coupe from 1999 to 2000 that was available with a 6-speed only (called a fixed roof coupe or FRC). Then in 2001 you could get the same FRC but only with the more powerful Z06 engine. That lasted thru 2004.
They improved the car each year so the 2004 seems to be the best of the bunch. Prices are amazingly low out there.
Here's a quick tip. My friend Deb just traded her automatic red 2004 coupe in on a new Grand Sport vert this week. It has Borla exhaust and aftermarket chrome wheels along with new tires. Mileage is around 25,000 and it was always dealer maintained. The car is a Kool Chevrolet in Grand Rapids, MI. They took advantage of her (in my humble opinion) cause she REALLY wanted a GS. If you could buy it for what they gave her then you could get a really pristine, sharp C5 for a song.
PM me if you would like me to have her contact you and she could set you up with her salesperson.

OK. Just reread your post after I finished my morning coffee. Performance eh? Go for the Z06. I drove a 2001 Z06 this time last year and it was the best handling, most powerful car I have ever driven.
I came from the 60s street machines back in the day and have driven 426 hemis, 427 Vettes and Chevells 396s. They cannot touch these Z06s.
You can buy a decent one in the upper teens and low 20s today. A lot of bang for the buck.
If you decide to do this then seek out some advice in the C5 section and have someone who has owned one go with you to look at the one you pick out.
And - WELCOME HOME!
