How high is the sky? Or, how long is a piece of string?

The cost to build a 383 can vary from $1,000 to $12,000

The fuel mileage will be a direct result of:
Your tuneup
Your driving habits
The parts selection for your engine.

Depends how radical you build it. Look for roughly 2 mpg loss could be a touch less or more depending. You can regain some through careful tuning. Honestly once you drive a stroker you wont care a bit youll enjoy it too much.

I can chip in here. Two years ago I rebuilt my LT1 into a 383 stroker, and I love the results. The design goal was to run a quarter mile in 12.00 on the hottest day of the summer, 11.50 in the cool of the spring, and pass emission testing. We achieved all three goals.

The overall cost of the job, including rebuilding the 700r4 tranny was about $10K. Not cheap, but for me, well worth it. As to gas mileage, I get about 20-22 mpg at a steady 70 mph on the interstate, and about 14-16 in mixed driving.

The good news is that the car is a monster. It runs mid-11's at the track and has a 0-60 time in the low 3's. It dyno'd 400 RWHP. Details of the build are in my sig.

Go for it. What's money for, saving for retirement? Nawwww.
