Half assed base model power was not in his league. His last c4 was faster (it was a ZR-1).
Really? The way more expensive ZR-1 with 50+ hp more was faster than the base C5? Imagine that.

Bring that $80k M5 to a road course and watch what happens when it meets even a stock C5Z.
In fact... please name the cheapest car made that will out perform a C5 Z06.
You don't like the C5. Fine... you are certainly entitled to that opinion but justifying it by comparing a base coupe against cars that cost twice as much is ignorant.

I get it..you like the C5 and I do not. My old man did not feel like the Z06 was worth what they were asking for it in 2003 (certainly it performed well) and got the base 6-spd. I believe he also had a mercedes during the same time on lease that did cost more than $50k new.
The only reason I even own a vette is because the C6 Z kicked so much *** -it was basically in its own league when it came out and generated a lot of interest. I'm offering my viewpoint that the original purpose of this thread is a real phenomenon and that many younger people with means aspire to other types of cars.
Back in the day when the zr1 first came out i was getting my winsheild replaced for my 88 mazda b2200 " i loved that truck". while waiting a guy was in the lot with a new 300z twin turbo. we talked cars a bit and he tells me that he got the 300z tt because he wanted a car that was gonna hold it value and that he could have got a zr1 but they where not going to be worth anything later. i dont think the 300z tt is doing as well as a zr1. do you? and i do agree. c/d motortrend and the likes have always first raved about how wicked the c4 then the c5 then the c6 is and then later in the year they change there tune. knocking it and such. but all the performance #s are right at or above cars that cost a whole lot more. then there bottom line reads "corvette most bang for the buck". funny this car has such a huge target on it's back.
expensive? yes but a new PU truck is the in the high 30 to 40 range as well. All vehicles are overpriced due to labor costs, and government intrusion. What I see is there is a large market growing for the BMW's and Mercedez. It's that European thing, "well if the europeans like it, it must be cool". BFD
So move your *** to Europe and buy all you want, live like they do and stay the hell out my life.
I'll take my American made cars and they can have their POS European and oriental cars. If you don't want it, that leaves more for me.
Now then back to what kind of gas we use in our vettes, or Carfaxes.
I have my new vette watch, my T shirt is on the way and i'm asking my wife for a gold chain for christmas, so screw him. I may just get me some ambient lighting and grow a mullet.

OK... just to clarify. Had money to buy whatever he wanted; didn't do homework and took the cheap route; bought base coupe, expected it to perform like cars twice as expensive and was disappointed when it performed like the 350hp car that it was. That about cover it?
Not quite sure what the Mercedes has to do with anything.
The C6Z wasn't in it's own league when it came out. It was in the same league as cars that cost twice as much (or more). EXACTLY like the C5Z was when it was new and EXACTLY like the C4 ZR-1 did when it was new.
...and as for younger people with means. I don't think anybody here gives a crap what yuppie rich kids want.
All of that aside, you have missed the entire point of what I have said. I couldn't care less whether you like the C5, C6, C8 or whatever. The point is that trying to justify that the C5 is a bad car based on comparisons to a C6 Z06 and an M5 is ridiculous.

.....
Domestic cars rattle.
Arguing domestic vs... always entertains. "we don't care what yuppies want"
who is we? Not me.. I like many brands and makes. Certainly the manufacturers should care... Everytime an old person dies, domestic makers lose market share. I really wish GM would stop making crappy cars. especially from a NVH standpoint.
Is it possible for you to make a more generalized statement? My C5Z has never had a rattle even after being lowered with a stiffer suspension.
On top of comparing performance to $80k+ cars, now the C5 sucks because the interior isn't as good as a $50k+ Mercedes luxury car? Another brilliant comparison.
So pretty much, you think that the $44,000 sticker C5 coupe should have out performed $80,000+ cars (with over a decade more technology nonetheless) and had the interior of a top end luxury car. That's about all you have managed to say so far.

IDK what else they could do to improve them much. Steering Wheel from a Cavalier(Cobalt actually.)? WELL It's not an ugly steering wheel, and probably has a better airbag system than anything other sports cars out there. I have no evidence to back that claim up.
The fact that it runs 11's or 12's can't be held against it as a design flaw either. IDK for sure but Cobalt sedans feel like mid-high 15 second cars, pretty stout for a cheap sedan so proportionally in comparison with other types of cars Corvettes are right where they've been the past 25 years. It is the standard by which others are judged now, just pick up any monthly issue of C&D, R&T, MT etc, I bet each month in one of them is some new supercooleuroflat6turbocarbonfiberkevlar twincompR1tothefifthpower pitted against it.
Preaching to the choir is all I'm doing though, I don't really have any valid points .

the european cars are more family friendly but they ARE NOT A VETTE. No matter what lipstick you put on that pig.
& to make the point, look at the lipstick on this pig.
I dont listen to many people anymore because they just talk opinions ( I want to hear the facts too)...
I know my Vette is fun to drive and I enjoy every second in it,
I know that the Vette is a great value, bang for the buck, or whatever else you call it,
I know that its American and as an American I feel proud to drive a Vette,
Take these people for what it is worth. Im sure everyone on here enjoys their Vette just as much as me, and we know the truth about Vettes because we own one!
