Default '89 Project

Hey Guys!

Just bought a project. it's an '89 Corvette, with what is believed to be a 350 out of a '74 Camaro LT with HEI, Edelbrock 4bbl Carb/Intake, and 305 Heads with what look like "shorty" headers.

It does not run right now.....

Previous owner says he believes it's "timing" related. He also says the tank was cleaned, and fuel pump taken out (Existing one is mechanical).....so hopefully I can eliminate those.....

Basically, I plan to hook up a battery, have my Chilton's, Haynes, etc. manuals with me, give it a crank, and see what happens.

Thought I'd pop by here and get some input on trouble-shooting from there. I bet some of you guys have an idea of what order to troubleshoot in. Might save me some time. I've always gotten good advice here. Thanks in advance!

Step one: get your wallet out of your pocket, open it up, and kiss the green stuff good-bye! Good luck with your project!

Hey, maybe I'll buy like 3 or 4 of them, and make one good one out of the lot, LoL.....Probably get out if it cheaper that way instead of buying a hood for $900 off ebay.....hell, there's an '84 parts car in my area for $250, LoL.....

84 hood won't work on an 89.

Considering the bastard set up under the hood, you should part it out, and take the money you make and buy a nicer intact one.

Just my 2 cents.

Or a track car. I smell a load of trouble on this one. Doesn't sound like the conversion was done correctly.

Good luck with it and have fun! A lot will tell you to cut your losses without knowing the full deal but it's all in what you want the end result to be.

Oh, I don't need a hood.....I was just saying, there's a lot of parts cars out there for little money.....

I have a couple of nicer intact ones and all, and yea it could be parted out.....but worth giving it a try.....Just wanted some input on things.....I won't be throwing tons of cash into it, thus my inquiry.....

It was worth my while, even as a parts car, but it's a shame to do that to these cars really.....

Put the new battery in and give it a try.. If you have specific symptoms, I'm sure you'll get a good response as to the problem, or possible problems..

Yea, I'm sure I will.....always gotten good advice here.....I just thought I'd test the waters, and have some stuff in mind beforehand.....I hate having things apart and having to run out to advance, autozone, o'reilly's in the middle of stuff.....always seem to get to that point 10 mins before they close too.....don't ya hate that?

Ah well, shold be posting quite a bit in the next few days.....or reviewing older posts....

I hear ya on that.....every time I see one for sale out there with a carb on it, it makes me wonder if the "service engine soon" light has ever been off after that.....

Yea, between the manuals and the boards here, I've managed to avoid any costs beyond parts really.....

I'm no wiz though.....My hourly labor rate would be embarassing if I figured out what my time was worth, LoL.....but I enjoy it to an extent :-)
