Some just aren't aware about waving and honking, and I'm sure more so with the C5s and C6s.
Honestly, I have been a corvette owner for 13 years I never heard of the until I joined the forum . Now, being a car guy I have always waved or given people the if I thought their car or bike was cool. Maybe they are just ignorant like I was.
It's a toss IME. All gens wave about 60% of the time. But a lot of the non-wavers I chalk up to just not seeing me. Of those whom I wave to that I know for a fact saw and didn't wave... that number is actually pretty low. I see mostly C5s and C6s around here and seem to get a very good wave response overall when eye contact is made. I even had a C6 yesterday wave to me going the opposite direction on the freeway (which is a goodly distance away, ie, the east bound and west bound lanes on the local 101 Freeway are pretty spread out).
Also, I got a wave from a C1 a few weeks ago. But I wasn't in my Vette. I was in my commuter car and a C1 was waiting to pull into traffic, so I let him. He waved (a wave of thanks really cuz I am pretty sure my little hatchback didn't impress him!)... but I count it!
Chicks never wave....mostly because they have a damn cell phone stuck in their ear. The C6 guys are clueless, but the older Corvettes wave usually. Especially if it's a nice day and everybody is out playing with the toys.

I think you're right. Unless they get involved with shows and clubs I doubt a lot of them know it.
I'm like you, although I haven't owned a vette for that long, but I never knew about it either.
I generally wave at cool cars, no matter what they are. Vettes included. Maybe it was in our subconscious.
I think you should start a poll/thread on what Generation Corvette owners start polls & threads on who waves or doesn't wave. I guarantee it's drastically started mostly by C4 owners. Why is that?
Every single thread eventually gets around to some commentary that includes, "older cars wave more, C5s not so much, C6 people are stupid." Is the point of all this an opportunity to dig at C5 & 6 owners? (PS, I don't care, I dont have a C6 and I consider our C5 a daily driver. I do have a C1 and chrome bumper C3)
I just wonder about making this same point over and over, month after month, year after year. Always the C4 guys. Always gets to the "C5/6 = bad." What is it with you guys and the wave?
Just for the record, I bought my first Corvette in 1978 and EVERYBODY waved then. Now it seems no one does. I never initiate a wave any more, no matter whether Im driving the C1, 3 or 5. If I happen to see a Corvette wave to me, I'll return it if it's convenient. Those days are so over.
This lady waves 90% of the time, but have only had one guy wave back, from a C2. Never had a wave returned from C4,5,and 6's. Several are people I see quite often. I have an LT4 so I'm never on the phone while in the city, but a quick wave is easy.
Well some of you seem to think that I started this thread to bash certain generations. I assure you there was no malice behind this poll; I just wanted to know if everyone else had the same experience I have.
Also some of you commented that you see more of one generation so you get the most waves from them. That’s good but try to remember to think in percentages, meaning if you saw 10 C5 and 6 of them wave, and you saw 4 C6 and 3 waved, you would have actually had a better wave percentage from the C6 then the C5 even though the C5 had more total waves.
I think one reason that most of us agree that the C4 are waving more is because they are at the point where as I said they are an entry level, and are likely to be in need of some help with fixing something on it, or learning something about it so the owner would be more likely to seek out a site like this where they would find info about the wave along with what they were looking for. C5 and C6 guys I would say for the most part are less likely to have something wrong with their car that they need help with, and I would also assume that they would be less likely to work on the car their self. Not bashing these guys, I would love to go buy a new C6 and wave at everyone from it, but if I did I would be waving all the way to the poorhouse.

I agree, to a point, but I didn't buy the car because of price alone. We did look at some nice C5's but they did not feel right to me at the time. The C4 did.
I could be wrong, but I suspect the majority of us grey beards on here can afford what we want....IF.....we want to. We can also afford not to. To me....that is the ultimate luxury.
Okay....I'm off my soapbox....we now return you to Captain Kangaroo....already in progress.

Honestly, I've never even paid attention to how many waves, or from what generation they were from. To many other things to look out for on the road.
