Could anyone tell me the correct procedure (if there is one) for jacking up a C4 (96 Coupe) with a hydraulic floor jack and jackstand placement? My 78 is easy, this one I haven't done yet but want to get under there the right way.
I know where the jacking points are when using the scissors jack, but am a little nervous about doing it with a floor jack and stands.
Use the center crossmember in the front...you can use the same crossmember for your stands...On the sides, use a piece of 2x4x4 (some use a hocky puck)on your jack cup....jack it up just beyond the markings, then you can place your stands under the rear.
What I do is place a 4 x 4 on a floor jack under the spare tire and jack it up from there. I place the jack stands on the frame nearthe gas tank.
For the front I drive the car up on 2 x 4's(to gain a little lift) I then jack up by the front crossmember and place the jack stands on the frame by the sway bar attachments.

If you jack from the frame point behind the front tires, you will pick up the entire side of the car you are jacking. that way you only have to jack it in two places to get it off the ground. :seeya

Mr Mojo,
How long does the 4x4 need to be? The width of the spare tire? Would this
provide enough height to be able to change the exhaust system out?
Re: Jacking and jackstands on a C4. (Marlin in Minn)
Marlin, I just had one laying around, it's about the width of the spare tire carrier. I jacked it up high enough to place the jackstands and I yanked out my old exhaust and installed the new one.
I had so much trouble with jacks and stands on our vettes. I just ended up buying a two post lift for the house garage. I have a four post model at work just for my toys. They are not that expensive these days. :chevy
