If there is more than one light, I would suspect a radar detector.

It's not that because the radar detector is next to the steering wheel, The switch only has one light and its red.

It could be an aftermarket alarm valet switch, used to arm and disarm the alarm.

Or maybe a manual fan switch for cooling the Rad.

Probably broken antenna mast tape, plastic with little teeth....fairly easy to replace, about $30. As long as the motor runs it has to be that really.

Too bad the switch is for that (why on earth would someone do that anyway).... my guess would have been Nitrous... heheeh

I've seen these "antenna bypass switch kits" on ebay. The reason to put one
in is to save wear/tear on the antenna/motor - why would you want it to rise
if you are listening to CD's or tapes???

Good grief....it's not that big a deal  ... I had good luck with my black 87 coupe...had it for 5+ years and never once had a problem with the antenna or motor. My ZR1's tape was broken... :( Easy fix tho. I worked at ZIP and constantly sold the replacement masts like daily.

Someone enlighten me. I have heard about these antenna switches and really don't get it. I start the car and the radio is on ANTENNA GOES UP. I decide to listen to a CD, ANTENNA GOES DOWN. CD ends and I want to hear the radio, BACK UP goes the antenna. That is two extra operations of the antenna. If you DON"T buy the switch, it goes up once when you start it and down when you shut it off. LESS wear and tear. Maybe it's just me, but I would do without the switch.

Also, I bought a new mast (tape and tool included) for $18.00 from AutoZone and it was IDENTICAL to the one on the car. It'll save you shipping and $12.00

:) :)

Put something on your brake peddle.. then get out and see if it is a tail light black out switch. Perhaps the previous owner liked to elude cops?

Nitrous?

Oops..
Didn't read all the posts. ;)
