Hey guys, I have an 84 with power windows and today I went to raise the drivers side window and it went 1/2 way then makes a rattle sound. You can lower it all the way and then when you raise it it stops 1/2 way and rattles.
Any idea? It was fine till today. Power motor for the window sounds fine also.
How hard is it to remove the door panel?
man thats easy, just remove the screws that are around the door panel and the two that are on the arm rest on the door plus two more where the door handle is pull easy just enough so u can get your fingerer behind the panel once u get it loose pull and lift up at the same time. i just replaced my window motor. it took me awhile but pretty simple. good luck
Early C4's have a ribbon track the motor gear contacts with to raise and lower the window which has apparently lost some of its teeth in yours. Recently someone posted that replacement ribbons are available at the chain auto parts stores but arent Vette specific so some fitting may be necessary.
I just went ahead and replaced the slow moving ribbon type with the newer style scissors type. They arent too expensive if you watch the 'bay for a used one. New ones can run about $250'
Do a search and you will find tons of step by step postings. I also have a .pdf on window adjustment if you decide to replace your motor/regulator. PM me your email addy if you want it.
I just got a used door to replace my scratched window and possibly the regulator and felt
When the window get to the top it just grinds away
Hope I can get the old window out without cracking it
After you get the door panel off, be sure and replace the window anti-rattle pads located at the front and rear of the door assembly. There are two of them on each door. You can order them online at Mid-America Motorworks (MAM) or from Eckler's Corvette Parts.
I noticed that the new part is metal and the old regulator is a plastic type assembly..
The glass came out of the old door through the top before I slid the regulator and motor out the panel opening...
Maybe this wasn't an 84 door after all. Or a later model year car???
It looks like it will work though...
I see that this door had been upgraded already or isn't an 84
No big deal...I popped out the old glass and ribbon type regulator..
Some teeth were missing...
Popped in the new type regulator from my used door and glass without scratches..
Nice felt...
Drilled a couple holes in the bottom of the door..
Noted a slot already drilled out at the bottom for the rubber stop!!
Now this window sails up and down like a dream!!!
