Re: Jackstand height for diff/tranny work (cprgmr)
You don't want to make it to high, you will make it top heavy. I would take my tires off and slide them under the wheels. Are you removing the tranny? If you are and you are lifting it out and in by hand you don't want it so high you can't reach it.

I'm not quite sure as to whether I'll be removing it completely or not. I have to throw in a new torque converter so I know that I'll have to take it off the back of the engine at least. I imagine that I'm probably going to need some sort of tranny jack as well...
Re: Jackstand height for diff/tranny work (cprgmr)
I got my first tranny out fine with the car on top of 24" jack stands. I used a large floor jack to lower the tranny down. Then when I got it close to the floor I slid it off the jack onto the floor because it wouldn't fit out under the car while it was still sitting on the jack. The next time I took the tranny out I used this, MUCH easier, hahahahahahaha
I don't think the quiklift goes up more than 24" does it?

I think that is the ultimate lift solution for the home mechanic! :) The Kwiklift goes to 30", but I've been looking at some low profile tranny jacks that will work with the jackstands.
