Not everything will become collectible due to US going more into compacts and economy cars starting in the 70s plus overall less styling. However there are plenty of 70s, 80s, and 90s cars that already are being fixed up and collected. Even the muscle cars were hard to get much for at one time....muscle cars, see what they've been going for in the last 5 years?

...just like others have said. 12-15k is dreaming for most C4s.

Nobody is trying to raise the value of C4s. They are trying to put more money in their pocket.

Is a C2 less of a car? C1?

A car is worth exactly the amount that a seller will take and a buyer will give. For a huge majority of C4s this is under $10k. It doesn't matter how much you may like it... it doesn't make it worth any more.

Simple to understand. They want to actually sell their cars rather than have them in an ad for 18 months with no sale.

c3 is a less of a car yet it brings in big bucks.

As long as people give away c4s and those 6k and under prices c4's values will never go up.

So i praise the people who ask what they are really worth.
Do you have any idea how the market works at all? When people are trying to sell their cars, they are trying to get money, not raise the value of your car.

Why would you think anyone... anywhere... is worried about whether "C4 values will go up" when they sell? The market is the market.

And you think the cars are "really worth" more... why? Because you own one? Because you like them? You can't possibly really believe that, can you?

Perfect example, there's been a couple entry-level year Corvettes for sale on the C3 side in the last year of 2 (3 I can think of)... the owners loooooved their cars, spent a bunch of $ on custom paint and stuff... and wanted to believe the cars were "worth" more than the market will bear for custom cars. They arent. They sat for sale for year without selling. Still haven't. A $9000 car isn't going to sell for $20,000 no matter how much you cry that the candy paint makes it "worth" more.

If C4 owners want to sell their cars, they sell at market value. If they want to pretend they are worth more, that they can "raise" the overall values by some C4 Boycott or collusion process... well... take out some more money for storage. You'll need it.

You mean what you want yours to be worth.

Accept it the 4 and 6k Vettes are selling for that because thats all they are worth, whats so hard about that to see? Its just a car not a golden chalice. Lastly asking a bunch of money for any car will NOT raise the value of that or any other car its just going to sit longer unless you find a sucker. Bottom line is with the web its a lot easier to find what a fair price to pay for a car is, people generally arent stupid.

Default value versus condition

One of the variables is condition. I can take a Vette needing some work and do the work myself and increase its value somewhat. We've all seen it- Buy a C4 Vette for $5K and "fix it up" with $1,000 of parts and twice that in your own sweat and maybe you could resell it for $7-8K.

But if you want a show contender, less than 40K miles, no visible wear and tear, maybe you will pay $10K+.

If I went to replace all the rusty screws on my C4, it would cost me a fortune. Would it increase the value to a potential buyer? Maybe a little.

All the other emotional rules apply too. the custom paint job you paid $6K for on a car worth 5k otherwise, doesn't count for squat. Those custom wheels that you love (and I think are tacky) won't return full value. All those receipts for ordinary maintenance and repairs are nice, but not worth very much.

Just enjoy your ride, and don't worry so much about what you could sell it for.
