This am was nice, couldn't sleep. Got up and tore into my dash.
I was getting "sys" flashing ( aftermarket stereo ) and none of my trip cluster buttons were working, nor did they even illuminate.
I had made a "harness" with the resistor mod I found here at the forum.
It took me a while to find the correct wires, everything was tucked WAY up in the dash.
Did the mod.
I took apart the Trip clutster only to find out that the coupler was slightly disconnected and the "male" pins were bent. All I did was was clean up the contacts and put it back together.
YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everything works and no more code C41.( edit) orig stated code 13...code was 41
I'm so surprized cause when I've worked on this car, or has someone else work on it, ONE thing has turned into THREE things.
Gosh darn...I'm so proud of myself.
Only three things left to do next week.
New rear shocks
New throttle cable ( stretched and not obtaining WOT)
Front end alighnment, pulls "slightly" to the left...may not mess with it..?
And then????? Nothing left to do but drive the crap out of it.

If you leave the alignment issues alone, you may have premature wear on your tires. At least have a 4 wheel alignment done when you get your next set of tires.

Local place wants $90 for it...not too bad.
I need to swap front tires first and see if if it pulls to right instead of left, then it would be a tire issue instead if alignment.
Too lazy today and getting many "adult beverages" under my belt to even care about it....next week...lol.
There is an adjustment for the throttle cable. Do a search. It's easy and works!
Mike
Searched everywhere...I don't think there is. You can put a "spacer" in, but its strectched, and will prob. strectch more.
Even my mechanic stated there isn't an adjustment..
Today..now get this, I tied a knot in the cable...serioulsy..really I did.
Now I get WOT...big difference.
New cable is on its way.
Please post a link on how to adjust a throttle cable on a 91. I'd appreciate it.
You have more patience than I do to tackle the electric gremlins.
Congrats on solving that. I wonder how the pins got bent?
I was wondering that too.
The trip clutser comes out in one piece, along with the DIC panel. It's all one unit. The unit has male pins on the back on both sides..right and left. On the left ( trip clutser) it's a 5-6 pin male connector that attaches to the other end ( female) that actually has some length to it. This is the piece that was not connected properly and some of the pins were bent and not even connected. I'm guessing that sometime someone had taken it out and just hurredly put it back together and didn't get it right...and noticed it wasn't working AFTER they were done and didn't want to take it apart again.
Now the other pins were a PITA cause the male pins on the back to the right for the DIC, about 16 of them ( guessing) have to fit into the female connector which is fitted way in the back. You have to try to guess by lining it up and pressing it in...good luck. I gave up after 20 minutes. I finally figured it out. I removed the female connector for the DIC and pulled it forward, connected it to the back of the unit, then connected the right side and then pushed the whole unit back until I heard it click into place. This click was the female connector for the DIC being pressed back into place. MUCH easier than trying to line up 16 pins.
Kinda hard to explain...kicking my self for not taking pics.
