Default quick question

I'm trying to remove the hood emblem from my 86. There are 2 holes in the hood support beneath it to access what I thought were nuts holding it on. When I feel in there they seem to just be pointy screws as if they were screwed in from the outside, but there's nothing on the outside. I've already half destroyed the emblem by removing the little plastic inserts looking for screw heads (it needs replacing anyway). Can anyone enlighten me before I end up destroying the paint too?

Thanks,
Tom

Eric, don't laugh.

There should be speed nuts on the back side of the hood, but since most people lose them when removing the emblem, maybe the previous owner glued it to the hood.

Well, the hood was just replaced, so I'm thinking the idiot just left the holes a little small and pounded it in with a rubber mallet, which of course means that if I pound it back out, it'll probably splinter the glass all up. Maybe I can break it off and push the screws through.

Ha, got it, and with minimal damage. You were right Mojo, double-sided tape. Some strong sh** too. Lifted the emblem up enough to slice it free with a razor blade as I pulled it.

Thanks.
