another one of everyones favorite questions, what would you do with my money? interior wise I have a brushed aluminum dash and after-market steering wheel. exterior is about done with fresh paint, new wheels and sticky tires. performance wise I have a ported base and plenum with ported edelbrock runners, and the big mouth air dam. I just ordered the march power amp series pulleys, car came stock with 3.07 gears and cast iron heads. I will have around $1000 for mods this summer, here are my current ideas:
1) Seats-the weak spot of my interior now, thinking about 94-96 sport or base seats or Corbeau A4's
2) Headers- with my more flowing intake the exhaust needs somewhere to go
3) Brakes- Looking at either the baer or c5 kit for just the front due to funds
4) Sound system- I have a kenwood deck and 6 non-factory speakers but do not have enough power to have it cranked up loud with the top off
5) Save- looking at getting a zz4 383 when this motor goes or a car lift so I wont have the frustration of dealing with ramps that dont lift the car up enough.
6) Other- let me know your thoughts

Not really a mod. I installed a new upper radiator hose today as that is one of the C4s weak links. They get a lot of heat in that engine bay and go mushy and blow when you least expect it. I will probably be stuck on I94 near Gary Indiana when I make my way to Bloomington Gold the end of June so I want to have confidence in my cooling system.
My task over the Memorial day weekend is to clean out the crud from in front of my radiator and do a full flush and fill with new coolant.
I also plan to clean my throttle body and IAC motor at the same time.
I'd save for a decent 90's C4. You could have a mid 13 second ride that is basically stock and reliable. No reason to even sell your 86 as cheap the later ones are now-stock is good, especially for resale.
First, I would invest in doing what I have been doing the past 2 or 3 months. Go out to my car and check my hoses and cables. Replace as necessary. I had to replace an upper radiator hose last year. They are generally not in stock at most parts stores. Order and upper and lower and keep them at home.
It is amazing how vacuum lines can look good, but are brittle and show signs of cracking. A fairly cheap fix.
But my next mod wont be a real mod. I intend to fix up my car, sell my coupe and get a convertible. I absolutely hate taking off the top. After seeing how easy it is to remove and reinstall the top on a c5 I need an easy way to remove my top.

I bought this as a project car, not as concerned with speed as i am originality and personality of the car.
-headers for 150
-dual straight pipes 200 at a shop
-C5 brakes 300-400 for the package
-better intake runners 300
Where can you find headers for $150? the only thing i have found at that price are not thermal coated and I worry about how easy they will bolt on. Also, where do you get c5 brakes for $300-400? Im in Va so it would be difficult to run straight pipes and im already satisfied with my choice of runners.
I replaced most of the hoses last year when a fuel line busted, shouldnt have to do that again for a while.
I voted for other. But now that I read your latest post, I would change that to headers.
Personally for me I'm going to drive mine as is and then decide if I go to a C5 or take mine and have professinally built. I could get 350 HP for 5500 bucks, which would be less expensive than going to a C5 though.
I'll cross that bridge when I get there, but I do love the feel of my C4 and would really like a sleeper.
