Last Friday May 21st I brought home my 94' LT1 coupe. Today was the first time I was out for a drive since last Friday, while driving I saw on the display --- "Passive Keyless Entry" light came on. it stayed on until I shut off the car, when I got back in the car it/start it up, the light did not turn back on since. This was the first time the PKE light came on.
Now ---- my car does not have a PKE transmitter --- I know all Corvettes came with one as it says so in my manual --- looks like a previous owner never handed it over when the car was sold previously.
Does anyone know why the PKE light would come on in the panel, when I don't have one ?
Also --- I do want one --- I must go my local Chevrolet dealer give my VIN, then hand over my credit card so they can order --- correct ? the only way I can order one is thru my Chevrolet parts department ?
Does anyone know how much they cost ? --- so I'm prepared.
Check the C-4 Parts for Sale section here on the forum too...once in awhile you can find just what you need when you need it. I got a PKE from a forum member that's just like new for around $110 or so. I don't believe the dealer needs your car's VIN number either.
Oh and also...has a general "rule"...we need/want to see pics of your ride. We like pics
Do yourself a favor and buy an aftermarket alarm system. I made the mistake and bought the PKE transmitter thru the dealer. It cost me $114 and it's a battery chewing peice of chit. I go thru two transmitter batteries per season. Gets expensive. A good aftermarket alarm will cost you twice that installed, but is far superior and feature rich.

Thanks for the replies all - but nobody know why the Passive Keyless Entry light came on in the display ?
Thanks,
Bob
Here is some reading on my issue where the light is on all the time when I start up and shut down. The only way I can get the light to turn off is by re-inserting the key and removing it again. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-g...pke-issue.html
As far as I know the light should not come on when driving. It could indicate a problem with the PKE receiver. Take the above advice and completely read and understand the owners manual info on the PKE function. Make sure you understand how it works and that you will be happy with this type of remote before you buy a fob. Also, before you buy anything go through the programming process (also in owners manual), it should act just the manual says, right up to the point where you are to bring a fob in range. If the PKE light does not react as the manual says it should, you probably have a receiver problem.
Also, just in case, there are three fuses involved with PKE 26,40 + 42, make sure they are all OK before doing anything else.
Also, if you do buy a fob keep in mind that there are two types, one for coupes and one for verts.

I am glad to know that I am not the only one replacing these oddball and NOT CHEAP batteries every few months. My PKE went bad two months ago and I checked the voltage - it was at 2.8V so should have worked. I took the battery out, wiped down the battery (both sides) and contact points with a little IPA and it worked fine. Last week it quit again - I checked the voltage and it was at 2V, so won't work.
Anyone have any ideas about how to stop the draining? Is it a function of the motion sensor in the unit not opening the contact when not used? Yikes

The PKE has no bulb check. The only time it will light is if the system is active or you have a problem with the module. If it goes out after starting, then your system is ok.

After my issue and reading how this thing works, there is a small ball bearing inside the transmitter. Every time the transmitter rattles the ball bearing around, its using voltage to transmit its single. When I drive it to work, I place the key and transmitter inside my drawer at work so it does not move around all day like it would if it was in your pocket. Like you, at 2.8 volts, the transmitter won't work anymore and the battery needs to be replaced. Since having mine fixed, I've turned it off and use the keys unless I'm going to leave it somewhere that I'm not familiar with.
Nice thought, but I'm afraid you aren't saving any juice. When you turn the PKE feature "off", you aren't turning off the fob, you are turning off the function at the reciever. The fob continues to transmit whenever it moves. The only way to save the battery is to leave it in a desk drawer or something and not carry it around in your pocket.
