Larry, do they replace or refurbish your old unit. Mid America replaces and you get the white letters rather than the orange letters on the face. My 93's CD is bad, but I want to keep the orange letters.
Such a common problem. Mine doesn't really work either. Sometime does, sometimes doesn't....comes and goes with the wind. But as long as the radio works I'll make do. I am sure it'll get something else if I really have to listen to CD's. :)
The CD player in my 94 Coupe would eat discs and it took an act of Congress to make it let go of them. I found a local Delco Bose repair outlet and had it fixed. According to their technician, Bose uses a low grade electrolytic capacitor in the unit and they just fail from the heat. He replaced 80+ caps in the entire unit, re-aligned the tape head, did a number of aftermarket fixes on the remaining electronics and charged $200 for the entire repair. It sounds great and I like having the CD player back in working order.
I went to an authorized BOSE repair center, they sent mine out and
repaired same. Turn around time was 10 days and around $280.00
with a year warranty...FYI
I have a '92 Bose Gold CD/Cassette/Radio system that "ate" a cd and would
not give it back. While the radio and cassette played, I had no display output
in any mode.
Did some research on multiple sites and based on a Forum recommendation, I
took it out last week, sent it of to DoctorDon's (USPS Priority) last Tuesday.
Got email confirmation when it arrived on Thursday and again when it was
shipped back to me (UPS) on Friday (they promise 24hr turn-around - you
pay shipping both ways - and YES, the return the same radio you send
(although I understand they sell brand new ones also).
I expect the radio in-hand this Friday - and will post again based on results.
So far, the experience has been very good (losts of email exchanges with
DoctorDon prior (and during) repair. :smash:
