i installed a new 700r4 automatic transmission in my 1986 corvette coupe. when i drove i the first 20miles+ it geared just fine as it should, but all of a sudden i felt that it started to slam into gear so i felt the car jolt a little when going into third and its been doing that ever since. But if i accelerate hard it gears as smoth as it should but on a higher speed as expected.
i can drive it fine but im a little worried. Is there something i can do to make it gear more smoothly at lower speeds?. I have adjusted the TV cable as it should so i don`t think thats the problem.

wish i could help here... only 2 times i've had "slam-shift" situations and both were caused by air bubbles in the line pressure. had an air leak in the pump pick-up line. weren't gm trannies tho'.. have you called summit?
the car shifts fine when it gears down from 4th to third and on upshift from 2-3 when i really put the pedal to the metal, but if im loafing around it usually slams into third and the car jolts a bit. It gears at correct speeds so it shouldn`t be the TV cable either. It might be as you say air bubbles in the line pressure or something like that.
hmm well. i guess it`s the TV-cable that needs correct adjustment. i thought it was adjusted correctly but it`s not. I had help adjusting it the first time and after that i thought it was adjusted correctly but it wasn`t it turns out as i tried it myself yesterday.
Now it gears more smoothly than it did before. I didn`t adjust much, just 1-2 milimeter or so more loose than it was, but allready i se a big improvment in shift feel.
