I don't believe that there is a sensetivity control. but here is my story. BEFORE... brand new pke key chain, programed it, and now i have to be hugging the car for the doors to open ... and for get approaching from the passenger side. NOW ... I dropped the new pke key chain (less than 2 weeks old) and the **** back popped off, the tab snapped off, of all the luck! so i put a rubber band around the unit to hold the thing together. now it works GREAT! good range from both sides of the car. maybe the rubber band is acting as an antenna  anyway I'm happy to leave it just like it is :)
Cool... I got a PKE story also - 1993 was indeed the first year GM offered the
PKE system, however, I got a 1992 and there appears to be one in mine! My
VIN indicates my car is a "late" year production unit - perhaps it was available
as a late-year option or the dealer installed it for the previous owner - I have
no way of knowing.
The unit is mounted inside the console tunnel. It appears to have a white
twist-**** and is the only adjustment (I haven't touched it yet). I can see
part of a GM factory sticker on the unit (black box about 4" square and 1.2"
thick. I saw it when I removed the Bose radio for repair. Unlike aftermarket
alarms, there is no harness connector - just wires running directly into a sealed box with no other connectors of any kind. The box seems to be sticky
mounted to the inside of the console tunnel - it must have been a nightmare
to install (no room whatsoever where its mounted). The wires (about a half
dozen) run along the console tunnel and dissappear into the dash. Two of
the wires also seem to run back into the rear hatch release button inside the
console (under the armrest lid). No other wires run to this button!
I currently have the car in storage and have removed the battery. Prior to
that, when I approached the car from the driver's side, within 3' both doors
would unlock, and the interior lights would go on... never tried approaching
from the passenger's side. I understand the PKE antennas are located in the
driver's door and under the rear hatch somwhere (both doors in a vert). I
guess I will know for sure it is a PKE when I have to reprogram after insertion
of the new battery & radio. The car came with three (3) black 2-button fobs
(one button will operate the rear hatch - the other the doors).
The siren is located on the driver's side, directly on the front edge near the
horn. It looks completely factory as it shows channel tubing tied directly into other harnesses running along the inside fender to the firewall. It looks too
neatly integrated to be an aftermarket (or dealer) install. Though not an
impossible task to replace, the factory harness retainers look original and
undisturbed.
I do not have any PKE RPO code, however, I have several options on the
car where I do not have the RPO codes, so I can't be 100% positive. As an
example, I have a CF7 RPO code for ROOF, SUN REMOVABLE
NON-TRANSPARENT , but I in fact have a blue transparent glass top! I have
no way of knowing how that happened - I wish I could talk to the original
owner and/or had better documentation with the car, but I can't/don't.
I guess its not a bid deal - its just now knowing for sure... like getting a
Xmas present with any "from" labels - do you believe in Santa??
