Supposed to get my car back today with my tranny rebuilt and a stage 2 shift kit, of course I was told this the other day also so will see, wish me luck.
Kimmer, I got mine back a couple of hours ago. It is a great feeling to feel the trany shifting the way it is supposed. I too got a shift kit installed.
Got it back, shifts smooth but it doesnt have that firm torque shift I thought it would have. but all the gears shift right away when shifted manuely. I'l have to check to get the name of the kit.
I sm not sure of the name or manufacturer of the shift kit but I will ask and get back to you guys. It does shift much firmer than the stock tranny. I am liking it so far :-)
The shifting is more crisp, solid plants your butt in the seat harder. It does not snap your neck for say but based on my old tranny that is how it feels. My mechanic explained the working of the shift kit this way. The transmission do not spend as much time on the cltch bands. It goes into the gear quicker, extending the life of the clutch bands and the tranny and oh by the way a little better performance. He did give me a little warning to be a little more careful on wet roads. I hope this makes some sence.
Hi guys; like Polo asked ; could you guys please name the shift kits. I might be updating and it would be great to get your feed back.
Hope you enjoy your mods kimmer
Well I hate to say this but I am not going to be much help. My trans guy combined the parts of two different shift kits to make mine. This guy builds transmissions for race cars ans such. He did say however that B&M makes a good one for off the shelf.
I had a tranny rebuild with shift kit in my Dodge ram and it performs much better. I don't know how true it is but they told me a tranny is supposed to shift, the way they do with a shift kit, but manufacturers puprposely leave them out in order to sell more parts.
I don't know about that but he did explain the shift kit reduces wear on the internal parts of the clutches and such, as has been stated.
One of these days I'm going to put one in the vette.
Aside from the shift kitt you might want to have them check to see if the TV cable is adjsuted right.
I just readjusted mine and it shifts great now.
Before it was shifting hard, it make the car feel more racey but after awhile it it was like someone hit me from behind every time the tranny would shift the car would lurch forword, it would churp the tires at 45mph.
Now it shifts smoothly and is much quicker.
The TV cable is a very important part of the tranny operation as i found out the hard way.
