Has anyone tried Chameleon Model Paint Stripper to remove the Dulso finish off their console shifter plate? Says it won't damage plastic. That crap is hard to get off.
Did the brake fluid melt the plastic? Do you just wash the brake fluid off when the crap starts to come loose? What did you refinish it with? I have some plasticoat spray that someone said would work fine, but am leaning toward paint so as not to have the sticky mess again.
Wow be careful Ive seen some stuff from other members that melted the radio surround. What year is your car do you have a rubberized bezel or just the painted?
It's a 1993 and has that rubber crap. Tired of the sticky mess.
I have heard of nobody having sucess with that crap. I would suggest buying a new surround on Ebay if you can. By the time you add up the cost of paint, prep and your time. Just an idea
I soaked mine for about 25 mins in lacquer thinner. Then used a blow gun and 150psi to remove the dulso. Worked great. I got 95% of it off that way and the remaining I used hot watter and a strong thumb.
The lacquer thinner WILL eat the plastic if you leave it for a long long time. Just keep an eye on it and remove it and dry it quickly if it starts to soften the plastic. I had good luck with mine, The dulso gave away before the plastic. I then painted it with a 25% gloss 2k urethane.
It now looks the way it SHOULD

As soon as the coating bubbled up I wiped it off and then cleaned it, of course I removed everything, afterwards I primed it and used a fine grit sandpaper, satin black is the paint color I used and it matched almost perfect
Too much work..and I like doing this stuff..easier to just buy some new parts..or if you want to spend some money you can get them coated..a place near me does an amazing carbon fiber coating..
