Default VSS question

My analog gauges from Corvette America are now back ordered until 7/7/10. I need to put some kind of speedo in the 85 until I get the gauges and install them. I'm thinking about going to the local pic&pul and grabbing a gauge cluster out of a later model Chevy van and hooking up the speedo to the cluster connector. Just wondering if the vss outputs are the same on all the Chevy products?

use a '4-out-buffer' p/n 25071437 to condition the VSS signal from your trans and many Gm elec speedos 87-92 will work...mid 90's+ Gm got crazy

Well, I bought a cluster from a 98 gmc van, but I'm not having very good luck finding a wiring diagram for the cluster connector from the van. I figured out the fuel and oil gauges but pretty lost on the rest of it. I'm a little challenged on electrical stuff but I thought I'd be able to figure it out. Maybe not.

The factory used a 2000 pulse VSS until '89.
In '90 they they went to a 4000 pulse VSS on the TPI but I recall the '90+ TBI cars ( probably trucks/vans as well ) kept the 2000 pulse unit

My biggest problem right now is to try and match the wires from the van cluster connector to the Vette connector. When I stopped to think about it what the van speedo reads doesn't matter as long as it reads the same every time. I'll check it with the gps and adjust accordingly. Everything was so much simpler back in the old days but we sure weren't getting 25 mpg with 400 hp engines.
