Go to an electronics store and get some empty boxes from a high-end sound system - head unit, amps, speakers - and leave them by the curb. Shine your car up and leave it by the curb - unlocked. Wait patiently nearby with an aluminum baseball bat. Best medicine ever.
or "head shot". Theres a weekly TV show called "Bait Car"....you must see it to see what you are dealing with.

Well I'm glad they were caught. Don't worry about the juvenile...he will turn 18 and continue to think he can do this stuff with impunity. Then he will get his. Or he will rip off the wrong guy and wind up a corpse.

Ive seen that show. its pretty funny, these are not the best and brightest among us.
I helped rig a bait car for the jurisdiction that I work in (I do video surveillance work) and that was fun. I havent seen much of the footage from it. but as I understand it most of the time when that car dies, they unass the vehicle and run. The funniest one I have seen is a young kid with the chains hanging down behind his pants, leap out of the car and they hooked on the steering wheel, turned him upside down and whacked his face on the ground a good one.
I guess i have to say, while it pissed me off that they did this, Im more mad at myself for leaving it out. Its not a big deal either way, I built it from a parts car and I can repair anything short of a fire, so..in the end I still win. and they are still skulking around in the dark waiting to get shot or go to jail
, and when i drive by in the car that got honestly and built with my own two hands and skills, they can just bite me. heh heh
One day this will come back to the theif/theives and they will feel pain like you.
Sorry for your loss! Luckily you were not hurt!
Good luck and best wishes!
yep! They will always be a thieving low life scum bag and the OP will through this eventually. I hate a thief.

One night it got stolen so I did the usual routine, call the police, call the insurance, etc. Then I went out to search for it myself. Found it about 6 blocks from my house in perfect condition. I called the police, told them I had found it, where it was and asked what I should do next. Their answer?? Get in it and take it home! Nothing was ever done.
I like the way you think. Invite a few friends over for the party as well.

P.S.
OP I might have another stereo lying around (not sure as I just shipped one out to another forum member that also got robbed) so if you don't get yours back from the police when they are done just let me know.

they actually did check for fingerprints.. heres how it went.
I called and talked to an officer on the "desk" who took the report.
30 minutes later i get a phone call from him. asking about some details of the stereo etc.. he asks "can you identify it?" sure I says.. ok dont touch the car an officer will be over.
officer shows up and shows me some pictures..I point out my panasonic..and say see theres the adaptor pieces still screwed to the radio and the ones broken off are screwed to the dash. he then dusts for prints on the glass and the "T" shaped bezel in the dash center.
THEN I get the story, turns out these two @#$%%$ are crusin around and hit about 15 cars, PD stops them at 0400 for looking slinky and wearing backpacks.. presto backpacks full of stolen goodies.. among which is my stereo, One is a minor.. he was sent home to Mama, (your frickin kidding me right? 17 yrs old and he walks?) and the other guy had warrants for Breaking and entering etc.. and is now in jail.
So I should get a call on Monday telling me how to get my property back, and get a call in to my insurance agent..
Now the kicker to the story? My 1938 Dodge was sitting in the driveway right next to the vette, It would appear that Paco did not see the very expensive head unit in the street rod mounted in the console on the floor...
I had laid a couple coats of primer on the Javelin in the garage and left the other two outside. that wont happen again, unless I stand guard.
thanks for the offers of help, and if they let slip who the minor is he may get a visit from the Ghillie fairy..
Well, they got theirs!!! Hopefully that kid learns his lesson for the future and doesn't do it again! It sounds like those police did great work! Hats off to them! Now get your car fixed and get back on the road!

Bondami, I'm glad things worked out(the police, them getting caught and all). you are lucky they didn't mess with the 38 though. They might have stole the hemi out of it. so fix up the vette again and get back on the road.
