Finally I learned how to clear the security code on my 85. I replaced the battery because it was 25 years old and the car only has 349 miles on it and I intend to use it. Here is the trick shown to me by my Chevy mechanic friend. Put your factory key in the ignition and turn it on for 10 minutes then turn it off for 1 minute then do the same thing about three times. The computer will re learn the key and it started right up. It took about 1/2 hour. Does not apply to keys with the computer chip on them.

What VIN is your 85?This was an option on the 83s that only a few 84s had and even fewer 85s had.You might have a very rare car there.
Is that some kind of option? My 85 just has a plain old key?
I don't know about any special option but it was just a regular key. I don't know much about this car because I got it from a tenant as part of an eviction process. I don't even have a manual. I am getting new tires tomorrow and intend to drive it. I am 74 and will probably never wear it out.

I.m not informed on this subject yet, just learning. I had learned on the forum that the 85 era had no vats but there was a flashing security light on the dash until we did this process.
