Cruising in this morning, with a new CD in the slot. My daughter sent me Black Sabbath's 'Heaven and Hell' CD with Ronnie James Dio. Not having heard it in quite a few years, I was stoked to have it pounding in the Vette'. What a great album to drive with!
Pulling in the top of the parking lot, way out by myself and there's some guy sitting a hundred feet away in a new, garish black Honda something, with bright white and orange billboards on each side and in 24" high letters the message "Green Convergence". He's organizing something in there as the car idles and I as I get out of the car, he looks over at me and looks at the bright red 95 Corvette, gleaming in the early morning sunlight.
We exchange glances as I slam the door shut and I think, go ahead and drive your "Green Convergence", I'll just stick with my "Red Defiance".
Ronnie was cool. He lived to be 67 which is good for the lifestyle he lived. He was still doing gigs at the end of 09. First gigs were in the late 50's. He is definatly one of my musical hero's.
Ronnie is the one who started the "Devil horn" salute .....I guess his Italian grandma used to do it to him to remind him when he was being bad. It is my version of the Corvette "wave". He was one of the greatest vocalists in Rock n Roll....and by all accounts a genuine nice guy.
