I think anyone who drives an auto is puss. wait, I have an auto.
When I was shopping I was looking for a 6 speed, but it wasn't a deal breaker and I ended up with an auto. Sometimes I'm happy with the auto but sometimes I wish I had the manual.
99% of my driving the manual would actually be better but it is what it is.
I may be interested in trading my auto for an LT4 though if anyone has a bum knee
From: levittown pa. usa Even a bad day with my `Vette, is better than a good day at work

After 30+ years of driving every kind of truck, & shifting my way through New York city traffic, NJ Turnpike traffic & the LIE. Not to mention shifting my way across the country. I am happy to get behind the wheel of an automatic. My `00 GT is a 5 speed, but the `90 Vette I`m trading it for is not. & I am happy about that. Heck, I`m also a driver instructor for the USPS, & just about all vehicles in the postal service are automatics- including the single axle & twin screw tractors
I have the 6m, but I understand the clutching on a hill thing, in traffic, and when you're tired. If I had that every day it would wear on me too. My Vettster is a second car so I have an auto in my daily driver.
I neeeeeeeeeed a stick lol. My father has owned autos in his vettes, and they are nice, with a shift kit and all. But I just like the feel of shifting thru the gears on my vette.. My mustang too was a stick!
May 05 we bought our first Corvette. A 93 convertible, LT1 with auto.
I'll be 70 in August, am 6-4 and 260#, bad back and bad knees.
The auto was the only consideration for us. Any Vette for consideration the first look was stick or auto. If it was a stick we would not look further.
Someone on this post stated they had a 93 LT 1 with 2:59 gear. I was checking someplace and that indicated ours was a 2:53 not that it makes difference. Our's has pleanty go fast for us.
I looked at the poll and sticks are leading. That seems odd if only 1 out of 3 Corvettes are built with a stick.
If I was young and healthy and did not have to drive in stop and go rush hour traffic it certainly would be a stick because I think they are more fun to drive. When I was a young man a bunch of my friends had Vettes and most were sticks. I drove almost all at one time or another and loved the stick.
The day will come when CVT rules the land and somewhere a kid will ask, "Daddy, what were gears for?"
I have a 6spd but I think it will be my last. When I have time to go out to the twisties for spirited driving (obeying all traffic laws and forum rules) I choose my bike over my car.
No they won't. While CVTs "theoretically" give better fuel economy, multi-speed automatics do a better job of delivering the economy and are cheaper and have better quality to boot. CVT is an idea that cam and went....
I did the manual trans thing when I was in my 20's. I'm done with them. Not getting any younger.
Neither am I, but I will never buy an automatic...not that I had a choice given the 67 435 and 95 ZR-1. Corvettes, in my mind are made for spirited driving. If you need to sit in traffic, buy something else.
I think all Corvette owners should take a course in competition driving - like at Skip Barber. Do that and you will never want to drive an automatic again.
My DD is an automatic. I would never get a stick for daily driving. Like others said, bumper-to-bumper traffic and just any stop and go driving make a stick more work than fun. But for my Corvette, it has to be a stick. I bought it to be a toy and to have fun driving it when time allows. I'll be swapping out the motor and ended up spending good money to go with a T-56 tranny rather than a 4L60E when I do the swap. I wouldn't have it any other way.

MY DD's are automatics.
But I understand why some have automatics - I like them all, as long as they have a Corvette nameplate.
I can understand some older guys wanting autos, so I don't fault that. Also, if I bought another C4 as a daily I'd buy an auto. My "project" car though absolutely MUST be a 6spd, which is what I shopped for specifically. I can't see going to the road course in an auto.
I suppose it's all in what your intended purpose of owning the car is really.
I think it depends on where you live. If your a city dweller like myself an automatic is best however, I would prefer a stick. To much stop and go traffic, unless your not a daily driver. I wanted manual but when I purchased my Vette it had everything I wanted except it was automatic so I bought her anyway. I enjoy it a lot since I can just sit back and drive without having to change gears at every light. An automatic still has lots of power. However, I think an automatic takes away the sports car feel in a way.

No need, I will most likely never see a track.
I aint getting any younger either and ATL traffic is a nightmare driving my manual cars. Doubt I will ever get another stick and I'm happy to have an auto vette.
