43 years ago tonight.....
I became a car owner for the first time - and a Corvette owner for the first time. At the age of 18 I bought this '59, 283-230 3 speed. Paid $1050 and sold it a year later for $1050. And I'd gladly buy it back for $1050 today if I could!

I only dreamed about having a vette when I was 18. That's great you still have a picture of the car after all these years, so many of the early cars I had I never took any pictures so now they are only memories. You know that old saying "young and dumb" well that described me to a tee. If you started with a Corvette where did you go from there, and how could you top a 59 vette?

Woulda - coulda - shoulda! Beautiful car and it was what it was then, as the C4's are what they are now. Fast Forward to the year 2023: "I brought a 96 CE for $10K back then. It is stored in a secret room built behind the garage, so the authorities won't confiscate it." "At night on the country roads, I roll it out after matching the temperature to the ground, so the satellites won't pick it up". The underhood reflector-refrigerant keep the IR signature down, as I warm it up. Sitting in the cool leather seats, I enjoy the smell of the 'Vette', while bathing in it's orange glow. The Carbon Credit sticker on the plates are long expired and I am now a Carbon Criminal. Dropping it into first, stab the gas and hit second hard, barking the rear tires. Life is good as the speedo numbers furiously multiply on the dash. Swan song of a small block in the middle of the night.

Damn....I feel a sudden compulsion to go drive Marco.
Happy Anniv. Don. Any idea whatever became of your '59?

I wound up selling the '67 for $2100 and bought a '56 in "kit" form. I partially restored the '56 but never got it on the road. I also bought a '63 vert. By about 1976 I had a house, kids, and a wife and sold the Vettes.
So I was vette-less from '76 until 2008, when THIS wife talked me into getting back into a Vette.
And I agree, I'd even add a zero to the price if I could buy it back. It does not show on the C-1 registry, and a friendly LEO ran the VIN about 10 years ago and it was not registered in NY state. Could be in some other state, could be in a barn or garage, could have been wrapped around a tree.

That was a nice car (as is your present car). I think we`ve all had cars that we should never have got rid of. In my case, I bought a red 1969 Road Runner brand new off the floor from Reedman`s in Langhorne Pa. The price was $3600, & my payment was $110.00 a month. Should have kept it. I don`t feel too bad though, a friend of mine had a `65 Vette vert in the late `70s. I don`t remember what he paid for it, but I know he sold it for $2500. Another friend, around the same time "had" to get married, & sold his pristine 1969 DZ302, blue with white stripes Z28 for $3400 I KNOW he wishes he kept that car.

WOW you started off with some awesome cars. I think a lot of us had cars back in the day that we could not afford now. You had a few I couldn't afford then and still can't.

I've managed to get snap shots of all my cars minus a crap *** hand me down Volvo and a Pontiac Grand Am that I immediately traded anyway. It will be cool someday to look through it and even cooler to see the ones I still have. I've definitely already got my share of keepers though already haha.

Yes, this one IS a keeper!
One other car I had along the way I wish I had kept was a '66 GTO.
Truth is, at today's price neither could I!

This is the '56 I bought in pieces. Dunno what was with the hair style back then, between the sideburns and the tree in the background it almost looks like a Davey Crockett hat!

I had a 60 vette in 1968 for $800 after selling my 59 T-Bird for $600. Traded the vette even to a guy for a 65 GTO. Those were all fun cars. I bought my first new car in 72 - a red Mustang convertible with the 351 Cleveland engine - I didn't know if I'd get used to how slow it was after having the tri-power GTO. The Mustang was rusted badly after 3 years.
