Digital speedo blues
I have an 86 model and the speedo went to go to zero once i hit 65 then stopped working. then it decided to work again for a while but would go back to zero after 25 mph or so. shut the car off, started it back up, put car in reverse backed up and speedo decided to work again for about 3 miles then died and has`nt worked since. ok the backing up and intermittant thin made me think it was the plastic gear, so i call some used parts dudes and they sent me a complete used (working VSS and green gear) we checked it and the one that came off the car and both function correct. I dont know what else to do because the the speedo like the tach will both prompt when you turn the key on, so that makes me tend to believe the power supply is functioning. can anyone help?

If I understand correctly, your dash is working, but the numbers for the speedo are staying on zero now.
I would check the wire(s) on the plug that pushes onto the speedo sensor on the tail-housing of the tranny. Maybe pull the plug and clean the contacts, while your down there.
