Amy, invest in a Factory Service Manual. You can get them from Helms.com. Its the most useful guide for diagnosis and solutions. Bronze is right, check the most obvious (and easiest)first. The dash normally goes darker at night and when you turn on the lights. Something in this power circuit is dead, start with the switch.
