My '93 needs to have what I'm assuming is the tilt wheel mechanism replaced in the column. It still has some notches to it, but the whole thing moves around a lot. I've heard it can either be one piece that isn't too expensive, or something else that is REALLY expensive! Plus, I have to find someone willing to pull a steering wheel off without exploding the air bag...
Is anybody familiar with what possible problems and/or cost I could be looking at?
This is a common problem from people hoisting them selves out of the car, and wearing out the pins.
An advanced search will show threads with how to write ups, and tools used to fix it.
Some have gotten away with pulling the wheel off, and getting JB weld on the pins, but most people want to replace the pins, and that is a lot more work.
cost my Dad $300 to have the steering column taken apart.

Thanks... That is kind of what I thought... You really do have to defy gravity to get in and out of the thing... It needs an "Oh Sh**" handle somewhere.
I just rebuilt mine using a lot of information from a lot of threads and even Youtube videos. I was a bit scared to mess with the airbag but it ended up being pretty easy if you follow the directions. If you don't want to do it yourself look for one of the Air Bag Services franchises in your area, they told me $120 if it was just the loose screws but it was over 2 weeks before he could look at it.
I took it apart and found that the housing holes where the pins ride were oval and the pins just fall out. I ordered a new "knuckle" but it required I pull the shaft out so I ended up taking the entire column out of the car (which is easier than I thought ). I just bought the car 3 weeks ago knowing this needed repair but did not realize the extent. The PO had let it go so long the wires for the turn signals were shorting and I drove it home with the flashers on and off depending on how I tilted the wheel. It's solid now and I make sure I don't use the wheel to get out, it's great exercise
This also allowed me to get the high beam switch working again.
