When I bought my 84 several months ago it had 34k miles on it and the sun visors were in perfect condition. Now, after driving with the top off, they have started disintegrating - I guess the 26-year old fabric is shot. I was set to replace them, but then noticed an 88 vert at a recent cruise-in that had them removed. The owner said that they just get in the way and he never uses them. I thought about that, and agree - the windshield's so low that I never put them down, and, when the top is off, which is most of the time, they just point up in the air. So, I'm going to pull mine off - anyone else do the same thing? (my old 1960 had no sun visors and I never missed them)
I removed mine, but for a different reason. Im 6"2 and they got in my way when looking out the windshield, you won't believe how much it opens up your view once there removed..Give it a try..WW
what are you going to do with the wire for the light? stuff in the window header?
I thought about getting mine reupholstered in leather and stiffening up the floppy ear.
..mine are getting sun faded too...I have considered removing them also, but now may get them redone in leather...So to the OP it comes down to your choice remove or redo...
There's a "floppy ear" sunvisor fix, too. Run a search.
Tried both the zip tie and the plastic binder method, neither of which worked for me. I think the fabric was just too far gone, barely even held the ears attached.
No need, really. The hole for the targe top bolt is right next to the sunvisor hole, you really don't notice it.
What are your thoughts for this on the vert? Do you think it also would go largely unnoticed? I guess I could just pull one of mine to get an idea. Thanks for the input!
I ran a little under a year without them after I got the droopy ear syndrome. But I just couldn't take the florida sun in the morning, so I had mine rewrapped in vinyl.
I am tall so it helps keep the sun out of my eyes keeping the visors up. The sun seems to seep between the top of my sunglasses and my forehead. The visors help, but they are cheaply made and way to expensive to replace.
I decided to have someone make me some visor covers. This is what they look like. They are velcroed at the end corner, so they just slip on and off. If anyone is interested, I have more detailed pictures of them.

Nice, elegant, cheap solution. Doesn't look perfect, but it does the job. I like it
However, I would never trust my Vette's gas gauge that low!
I took them off, which I'd do anyhow if I'm to replace them. It only took about 10 minutes to get them both off. The passenger side has an electrical connector that I just left up in the trim channel. I've got to say that my vette looks a lot cleaner without these sun visors sticking up in the air - I'll see what I think after driving for awhile on sunny days.
My 93 Ruby Convertible had the dog ear, worn material problem. Purchased a repo set from an Atlanta vette parts place for a very reasonable price. New visors included new mirrors. Very happy with the parts and here in AZ we need visors.
