Ok, I looked at the date code, I should have done that first. So who makes a good tire for spirited summer driving in 275/40/17 that won’t break the bank?
Not the best, but bang for buck would go to nitto(lotta tire contact but they run thin per size) or I run firestone wide oval(exact same design as nitto but slightly larger grooves My buddy has an 18 by 285 tire and i have 17 by 285 and mine is a hair bigger while his has bigger contact patches but pattern looks almost identical.
My 5 year old Firestones are doing the same thing. Somebody told me not to worry too much about. I asked Firestone and I should of known what they were going to say,any time tires are 5 years or older its time for new tires. It could be if the car sits to much.

Reason: forgot something
IMHO, best bang for the buck are the Sumitomo HTR Z, or HTR Z III, whatever they make in that size. They're crazy cheap, and I've heard they perform fairly well. No GS-D3 or G-Force T/A-KD, but very good for the price. Those will be my next tire change.
my bf goodrich g-force tires are doing the same thing. but theyre reaallllyy old. iv been looking at either the bridgestone potenza r760, or the nittos

To last that long, they must not have a lot of miles on them. I hate to have to buy expensive stuff and watch it quickly turn to junk. I think you got your moneys worth out of those.

That's what I'm runnin' right now on mine. Sumitomo HTR Z III's. Got 'em this Spring and love 'em.
They're really grippy in the dry and predictably so in the wet. I love the tread pattern, too. Similar to the Goodyear Eagle F-1 Supercar in design, but at a fraction of the cost.

I like the tread pattern also. Did they require a lot of wheel weights to balance? And have you pushed them hard in the corners?
I’m also looking at new Potenza’s, Yokohama’s S.Drive, Wide Oval’s and Kumho’s Ecasta SPT.
