I had a little extra time today so I decided to do a couple more things to my 84. I picked up a new Corvette emblem for the back since mine was missing - looks WAY better now. I also replaced the hood release cables since the drivers side one was toast.
The big surprise was when I changed the oil in the diff. I was able to siphon out about 1 1/4 quarts of some really thin oil out. I though maybe I just couldn't get the rest out. So, I added a quart of synthetic 75w-90 and a 4 oz bottle of GM posi lube, then wnet for the second quart of oil. It took about 3/4 of a quart more than what I took out. I'm guessing what I took out was the original 26 year old oil.
Lesson for the new C4 owners - not wait to change the oil in your rear end!
I didn't have a wrench that fit the hex inside the fill plug, so I went with a suggestion from a member here to just use a big monkey wrench. That did the trick.
Aside from that, I used an orange/black $12 "fluid transfer pump" from Kragens. I'm in an apartment with no storage here, so I had to toss the pump when I was done. It was too hard to clean and smelled like gear oil.
