It's not really the ideal ratio for a stock CFI, as the engine will run out of breath very quickly. Does your car have mods?

If you don't , then 3.07 might be better .
Ready to bolt in units on eBay ( items # 300450669654 / 110568690111 ) for $300+ and you get to sell your old one

I don't have an 84 but I sent my D44 to DTS (drivetrain specialists) and I agree with Polo, they were great. Give them a buzz.

Is that for sure?
I have a 79 Z/28 that has 30k miles and is bone stock. It has the factory Quadrajet, Borg Warner T-10 4spd close ratio and factory 3.73 posi -it is the only thing that makes the car "feel" quick.

I was thinking about doing this in mine too. I have an 85 with a 4+3. keep us updated and let us know how it turns out. Not to high jack your thread but these questions will help you too. Does anyone know if you have to upgrade the drive shaft as well? When I put 373's in my T/A I had a horrible shimmy over 60 mph. Turned out that the stock drive shaft couldn't handle the faster rotation. Also, the Richmond's I put in whined pretty badly (which I found out later was common with them). Any recommendations for a nice quiet set?

Also ETRBUJ1984, here is a set of Richmond gears for an 84. Found them on Jegs website.

True, it will feel quicker, but in the case of the Crossfire, the intake is so restrictive that with 3.73 gears, 1st gear will evaporate very quickly with the engine no longer making any power until it shifts.

NOW....that said, if the engine has been modified where it can wind out higher (ported intake, X-Ram, cam, better flowing heads, etc) and still breathe, it may be able to take advantage of the extra steep gears.

The CFI came stock with 3.07 gears, which are ideally suited to it in stock trim.

I was thinking about caming the car shortly after the gears but i will be driving it around before. Ive ask this question before too but ill ask it again..... is a carb swap a good idea for the cross fire engine ? As far as the car its an auto. d36 rear end and it has a k&n filter, true duel exhaust no cat.

It doesn't matter what you do untill you get rid of the restrictive intake system. A cam and gears will just make things worse.

If it is for the street, most likely even though( I have not owned a CFI car) I would bet it will run out ok, no where near ideal like with mods, but it will help. If it is for a track where you will always push it to the limits, the car will fall flat pretty quick with not enough air support at higher rpms.

How far do you wind the car out now?

If it were me, you could do the gears, maybe not that low, or do the 3.75's but some guys here know how to port the CFi for some more air flow.

There are some here that have the CFI and 3.75. One is:

So what about a new intake manifold and carb idea... would everything else function right? one more question whats x-ram is that an intake itself?
