Hey guys,
I found a white LT4 with 60,xxx miles for $18,900...I looked inside and it looks like the door panels have been pulled back from the door...plus the weatherstripping around the doors looks shot. I would think that these would both be easy fixes...? Thanks for the help...maybe picking this up this week.
The tabs that hook over the door frame, that hold the top of the door panel to the door, are just molded plastic. They break. I know, my driver's side panel has broken tabs and flops a bit when I shut the door.
The outer door seal molding is semi-PITA. The seals are riveted in place. You have to drill them out and use new pop rivets - and if you do not disassemble the door to the point of removing the window glass (I didn't) the rivets in the middle are hard to get to with the drill and the rivet tool.
Just with the last edition of the Ecklers catalog have new replacement panels been available from anyone other than GM. Only real help for a panel with broken tabs is a new panel - and Ecklers wants Five-freakin'-hundred bucks for a new panel. I don't know what GM wants for one, complete with carpet.
You might investigate the use of a black trim screw into the top of the strip on the door panel to hold it in place. Did that to an 88 coupe I had and it looked like factory.
