A Few Questions Before Installing Longtubes
Hey guys,
If I happen to pull the trigger on some TPiS longtubes this week, I want to know what all I'm going to need to do to get my stock exhaust system to bolt up correctly. I will be replacing the stock cats with RT's, and I was just curious if the TPiS collectors will require that I lengthen/shorten my exhaust. Also, should I have everything welded together or clamped?
I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to get to the exhaust shop to have my cats welded on and my exhaust system welded to the headers lol. I can't remove the system from the car because it's far too large, and I need to install the headers before going to the shop, so how am I supposed to do this lol? THIS IS QUITE OVERWHELMING

That's a possibility...
When I did mine on my 91, I cut the original front y-pipe so the ends sat inside the collectors by five or six inches... I bolted in the headers, cut the "y" to size, slid the collectors over the "y", then bolted the collectors to the header flanges. I picked up a couple of band clamps and attached them just to get it to the shop to have them welded. A little noisey, but nothing to attract the local law.

When I did the long tubes on my 92, I installed them, used the band clamps on the cats and drove it the 30 min to the exhaust shop.
When we put my buddys slp on his 2000 mustang it came in four sections since it has to go over top his axle, muffler is the third part. We got first two pieces on and decided "hey why not turn it on?" Its a sound you'll never get back, but trust me, you want to turn you car on at least once without the exhaust connected. It tends to sound mean for some reason...
Oh I'll be cruising a little while with just the headers
I have the stock exhaust system with certain parts modified (x pipe in place of center res and powerstick mufflers in place of stock mufflers), so will this bolt up to the TPiS longtubes without much cutting?
