I have bought a used center console and instrument bezel that is structurally in good condition, but I would like to repaint them to match the rest of the interior. I thought that I would be able to find paint to match at corvette central or ecklers, but they only offer metalic gray spray paint for years 90-91. I have a 1992 with all black interior, does anyone have any tips at how I can obtain paint to match?
I do believe that there is a procedure on repainting the interior pieces in the tech tips section. I redid my center console and radio bazel sections. I wasn't able to find any product out there that had the ruberized feel, like the factory pieces. I just took all the ruberized material off all the plastic pieces and painted everything just plain black. Seems to be even easier to keep clean now.
I just went through what you are going through. I ended up going and buying a bumper trim paint and painted my radio trim, center console, and air vents with it. I like this look better plus it is more durable than the rubberized paint. It gives it a bit of a texture and a satin black look. I tried to get a gloss black smooth finish, but after 3 days trying to get it right I got the bumper paint and am very happy with the way it turned out. It doesnt look like it is painted at all, if you didnt know that the trim was rubberized you would think it is factory. If you look closely at your ASR button it has a texture similar to how it turned out.
Email me sometime, when I get back up to G'ville one day I will show you. I moved away from there a little over a year ago, but travel up there to the GFs parents every now and again.
I’m with you on that. I do not particularly care for the rubberized paint; my OEM 10 year old interior paint has become supper rubberized from deterioration and feels more sticky than rubberized. I don’t like that.
JonM,
I thanks for the link, looks like you have done your own homework on this before.
