Default Door Sill Protector Installation Question

Had some nice SS door sill protectors fabricated, and I was going to use the existing carpet screw holes to mount them, but after 15 years of vibration, the existing screws are just "in" the holes, and not really holding anything (carpet) at all, hence, I was going to just run some new screws through the sill protectors (pictured below) and into the sill. I might run a couple down through the top too. What I need to know is...is there anything in behind that door sill ie: wires, tubes. etc. that I need to be concerned about???? I surely wouldn't want to run a screw through a wiring harness of some sort! Thanks in advance!

IIRC there isn't anything behind it except for maybe some wires? Take it off and check first. It's easy and doesn't take 20 minutes a side.

Maybe just use a couple of strips of the hook side of some Velcro strips to grip the carpet under the top side. It would hold it on there and then you'd have no holes at all in your covers.

Why not use the stock screw locations, but a slightly larger in diameter screw?

Those look great. I bought sill covers in 96. Never bothered with screws. They stay in place just fine.

I had those same ones made by the guy in Florida and they are great looking! I've been wondering how to mount them as well thinking it might be a real pain to try and drill through that stainless.
I've been thinking of going with velcro or double sided tape, not sure how it would hold to the carpet. Velcro will probably be the better choice!

- I have the clear ones on my `90 that state Corvette in black lettering, but the one on the driver`s side is cracked because the E brake handle catches it once in a while.

I bought the clear plastic ones with the black letters and used the carpet screw to hold them in place. The first time I kicked the sill, it cracked. I bought another set and just layed it on the sill and it stays put pretty good. At least if I kick it on the way in or out, I don't do any damage to it.

The finished product, using bigger screws in the existing holes, and velcro.

Like a mirror! Just right for the passenger side!

Seriously, they look good and that's another of the things on my "one of these days" list.

I also used Velcro to hold down my black plastic ones. I have black carpet so I used black velcro. You have to really look for it with the cover off. Look for some red Velcro. The sills look nice
