Back In The Saddle. Hello C4r's!
Hey folks,
It's been a few years, and needless to say, it feels good to be back. Some of you might recognize/remember me from the C5 forums. I joined CF back in '04 as the proud owner of a '98 convertible. Spent four years modding and enjoying that car. I also enjoyed my time on CF chatting up Vettes, getting tech tips and enjoying the sights and sounds.
In '08 I decided to sell the C5 and had the pleasure of turning the car over to a great dude and fellow CF member dfalliaux. HEY DAN! I always new I wanted to get back into a Vette, with specific interest in an early C4. My high school years were in the early-mid 80's, and like many of you, the first time I saw the C4, I was hooked.
Anyway, started looking hard this past spring and was very pleased/lucky to find this honey. A 1986 Coupe, DRM/Graphite, two-owner heavily optioned, non-Z51, automatic with 3.07 gears. Mileage is 54,000 and as you can see, very clean. Paint and interior are sweet. Car was stock. PO's had replaced a few things; alt., ac., radiator, etc.
Didn't have my hands on it more than a day and the mods started flowing. I caught the bug with my C5 and it hasn't gone away. Chrome ZR1's 17x9.5 and 17x11, Sumi's, D/S Rotors with Hawk Pads, lowered the rear (stock front height seems low on these 86's), Magnaflow CB, full tint, spare tire delete and a custom C4 Logo Polished Differential Plate that I think looks awesome. I also had it buffed and polished twice with Liquid Glass. I really want to eventually get the car to 300hp with headers, hi flow cats, mild cam, porting etc. We'll see.
I know some might ask about my license plate. My wife actually ordered it for me and it's pretty fricken' cool. In 1983 I sustained a spinal cord injury while playing high school hockey. I slid head first into the end boards and had a compression fracture of the fourth and fifth vertebrae. As a result, I have some paralysis and do use a wheelchair.
My high school mascot name was The Spuds and my number was 9. My number was unofficially retired after my injury, and officially retired twenty years later in 2003. Very proud to display it on my Vette.
I did drive my C5 with hand controls but have not decided yet if I am going to set this car up for me to drive. I've developed some weakness in one arm and certainly don't want to put myself and others on the road in danger. I have good friends that don't hesitate when asked to take me for a cruise.
Attached are a few pix. Yes that chin spoiler is jacked up, but I have a new one from MA sittin' in my garage waiting to go on. The Superman logo has always been on my rides. Even the one I sit in.
Hope you enjoy the car, I love it!
Peace.
Stephen

Wow, great story. Welcome back.
Very nice car you have there.
Did you go to high school in Vegas?
Just curious, as I grew up in Vegas, although it was before your time.

The car looks great, nice color. I played high school hockey too, sorry to hear about your injury. I like the #9 too because of Bobby Hull and my birthday, my # was 19. Good luck with the car it's a beauty.
