Default Ltpws

I need some help. I just purchased some new tires. The tire shop broke one of my tire sensors. Come to find out. There was two RR on the front an two LR on the back. So that explained why the Service LTPWS light always coming on after a few miles. Well I bought the right ones and had them put on the proper tire. Well the Service LTPWS light still comes on. I have disconected the battery for 15 mins to try an reset the computor. Well the light still comes on. I know a lot of us C4 owners have had problems with this system. So can anyone help me fix this problem. I have a polo green with saddle conv top 1990 L98. The dic/dlc is a 12 pin. I have found info about reseting a 16 pin dic/dlc. If I am right that is where u hook up a computor diagonistic tool.

Hi there you have 4 ways to address your problem.

1. Place a piece of electrical tape over the light in the Drivers Information Center or (DIC)

2. Pull the DIC and then pull the bulb

3. Find 4 working black band LTPWS (I underscore "working" )

4. Or... Pull them All from your tires the light will go away

All of these will solve your problem but it sounds like your tire shop owes you a LTPWS sensor

On my 95 the service light comes on too and so does the low or flat tire light. I went with the black tape method until I get a chance to pull the bulb. So #1 for now and #2 latter.

Sorry, guess we were busy having fun. Unless you bought 4 new sensors, good chance one is bad, and then light will still go on. To get codes, look at the top of this forum at the 'Sticky' section- you'll see 'Ultimate DYI' - in there you'll find code info (I think post 18)

Tire shop did the same thing to me when installing new Michelin's on the rear. They priced a new sensor from GM. Cost was so high that they offered me a set of Michelin's for the front. I went with the small piece of electric tape.

All of these will solve your problem but it sounds like your tire shop owes you a LTPWS sensor.

Can you still find a new ones, though? I thought they'd been discontinued by GM and no one's currently marketing new O.E.M. replacements.

I had a 1990 and the LTPWS light would come on, sometimes it would go out sometimes I had to shut the engine off and restart, which would clear the light. The maintenance manual says that the light comes on when the system doesn't see one of the sensors. Stop and go traffic sometimes lights the light as will a bad road. When operated when the temperature was below freezing the light would always come on during the trip. I never solved the problem, the car had 18,000 miles total when I traded it on my current 1995. My 1995 will have the LTPWS light illuminated when I start the car, but will go off when I drive about 1/4 mile and remains extinguished for the remainder of trip. I think there is a keep alive battery in the receiver box that needs replacement. The owners manual says to take the car to the dealer if the light bothers you. Remove the bulb, that will fix it.

I need to check my FSM to see if that's the case. One of those off-season winter resto projects.

They operate on Pizo batteries. Tire rotation excites the battery & causes it to generate an electrical current

No dry cell involved.

Nope you need to find a used "working one" as my suggestion to pull all the band and the light will go away will only work for MY90-91 C4s only. Pulling the bands will not solve the light problem MY92 and up

One time when I had tires put on they broke the metal band, not the sensor. I found a replacement band at an auto parts store. I think the band getting broken is the most common thing at tire stores.
