does any buddy know were i can still buy side pipes for my 85
The only real manufacturer I know of is Lawrence-Keech that makes a really cool kit called Side Effects. I am not sure about where to purchase but the link to the website is http://www.powereffects.com/SideEffects.htm I am not even sure they actually still make this product but there is a phone number and other contact info on the home page. Occasionally you see a used set here, eBay or CraigsList. Most of the time, they are pretty beaten up because of how low they hang.
GreggPenn is the only member I know that has a set. You could PM him and ask questions about the system.
I searched for a set for 3 years, either new or used, and couldn't find one for an 84-85. I did find one for the 86 and up, but lost the auction. There were called Side-Effects if I remember right, and they weren't true side pipes and they're discontinued. It consisted of a modified y-pipe that attached to the cat and each side had some kind of muffler that ran on the inside of the rocker panel and the exit was right in front of the rear wheel. The rocker panel was replaced with one that looks like the simulated side pipe rocker they sell with the fake tip. Someone here on the forum actually modified that rocker with a self fabbed y-pipe, looked great too.
I have actually heard the Side Effects and it does sound great. I have no idea whether it gets rid of the drone, but it does sound cool. The baffled muffler eliminators I installed sound close to the 60's sidepipes on the Vettes, so I'm happy.
