Before I start tearing up the carpet behind the driver's seat I would like to know if anyone has installed a racing harness in their car, and if there is somthing to bolt them into. I don't want to go the way of a harness bar.
Then how are you going to install the inside half of the shoulder harness??
There really is no way to properly (and safely) install a 5 or 6 point harness without some sort of harness bar. The entire point of the shoulder harness is to keep your upper body from moving forward in case of a crash.
Lap belts can be attached to the factory bolts that hold the seat belt; these bolts are at the lower rear corners of the seat well.
The shoulder belts have to be installed so that they can do their job properly. The angle of the straps between the attaching points and your shoulders need to be nearly horizontal and should not have too much of an angle from the attaching points going thru the holes in the seat back and over the shoulders. And it's not a good idea to simply let shoulder straps pass around the seat back.
If the intent of the harness is for track days or even autocross, most sanctioning bodies will look for a proper and safe attaching method that conforms to the rules. If they aren't installed properly, then you either may not be allowed to use them or not allowed to compete.
If you are considering them for street use, harness setups are not DOT approved and most all states do not accept them as a substitute for factory-installed seat and shoulder belts.

typ racing harness should have 'nipple strap' to prevent shoulder belts from sliding sideways/off and allowing torso to rotate forward...also must have 'crotch strap' as on impact shoulder straps may pull a centrally located belt latch assembly up/off pelvis , resulting in injury to internal organs...there are several other significant problems with the 'typical racing harness'.
mine:

pic is poor for info, but note that latch side strap is only long enuf to allow lever motion but keeps latch ***'y to side of seat, other side of lap strap stays across pelvis without crotch strap...not visible: only one shoulder strap is used, runs diagonally from oem upper shoulder belt bolt, across wearer's sternum, to latch ***'y at seat side (shoulder strap and lap strap buckle ends are 'zip-tied' together for convenient buck-in)
seat belts that came with my car are 24 years old, not safe due to age IMHO...new oem belts not available AFAIK, discontinued by Gm...been thru several 'routine' road blocks, only had one comment from a LEO = ''nice belts''
i do not recommend or endorse any non-factory seat belt configuration for any purposes...refer to your dealer or local authority for seat belt equipment.
