Default Are automatic C4's well....fun?

I've always been dead set on getting a manual first car ever since I was 13. Now that I'm the legal age to drive, I'm obsessed with C4's. The problem is, I can't find one with a manual transmission in my price range anywhere, except for the least desirable year, 1984 CFI. I'd really hate having an auto because I love the whole driving experience and the quirks of RWD. So should I sell out for the Corvette? I'm not sure if automatic trannys would be fun, do you guys enjoy them ? Or does it take away from the experience?

If you want a manual tranny I would sugguest that you wait for the right one to come along. Manual car get better gas mileage on the highway that auto cars. An auto is less of a hassal to in stop and go traffic. I like having a auto tranny because I often spend my time at the local 1/8th mile drag strip. My car isn't a daily driver. So having an auto is more suiteble for how and where I drive. If you plan on doing any engine mods in the future a manual car is what you want. Manual vettes have stronger rear diff. This is something to think about if you plan on doing any drag racing with sticky tires. Ask me how I know.

I have a supercharged 383 in a 91 with automatic. I find it lots of fun.

I have a 1990 Vert auto. I had 2.73 gears and was not happy. I dropped in some 3.54 gears and NOW Im happy. I may be retired but to pull 2nd gear rubber is a high. It all depoends on your driving routine;I prefer the auto for ease and with the gearing its fun but a slight decrease in gas mileage...you have to way the pros and cons of any selection.

If you really want a manual, wait. I wanted a manual, got new car fever and ended up buying another car a year later b/c I wasn't happy with the auto.

All of my cars since then have been manuals.

Put a quality shift kit in a auto and have the best of both worlds.
Manually shift up and down ( with engine braking ) like a manual ; without the leg work or cruise in D

I've got no complaints with mine. Plenty of mad torque to chirp through the tires with.

I love my auto, but I'd so give it up for a six-speed. I'd keep hunting if I was you. The right car is out there for ya. I wish I could afford another vette right now, I'd so get an 89-91 vert six-speed.

An auto will allow your free hand more time for the chicks you'll be picking up...

Yes.
My vehicles are all auto's 87 Vette Vert,Toyota Hilux,Dodge CTD 4x4
My wife's are all 5 speed manuals. 91 MX5, VW Golf TDI,Chev 4x4 3500 Diesel.
On the highway you run in top gear, around town manuals are just a pain.

Manuals are more fun on twisty mountain roads. Autos are more fun in city traffic. Guess which one I get to spend more time with.

My first mod was a shift kit for my A/T.
You get a nice little boot in the back when it shifts.
