Wouldn't you know it? A few days from a 10 hour trip up the coast with the wifey and I develope a brake problem. I was giving her (the car, not the wife) a wax when I noticed I had a hot back driver's side rim. (I had just returned from buying wax and Mother's polish) I finished polishing everything, and took a ride around the block. Sure enough, a pretty constant squeal from the driver's side rear brake. I guess I have had the radio turned up too high. Now the main concern is I don't have any time off work to take a look at it, so I had to call the local Chevy Dealership to ensure it will be done in time for our trip. I did take a quick look, and the rotor doesn't look bad. I'm thinking that it may be the emergency brake hanging up, because the sound really doesn't change when I hit the brakes lightly. Brakes still work great. The emergency brake wasn't working when I purchased the car, and I have never gotten around to fixing it. I'm wondering if my 16 year old son, who drove it to get gas, might have tried to set the EB, and that caused the sudden problem? We will see!
Very glad I caught it now, and not an hour down the road with a lot of damage!
I wish that I had time to pull the rim and check the Ebrake cable and the caliper. No time though. Today it went in to the Chevy Dealership, and I asked them to check the Ujoints too as I have a vibration in the back around 65-75 mph. It is most noticable going down an incline when you are just maintainiing speed. Well, after dropping her off at 7:30 this morning, they weren't done with her at 5 PM? They do have a mechanic that specializes in vettes, and he had a C5 in the air too this afternoon, but I am expecting bad news in the $$$ department tomorrow. I asked what the delay was, and the service manager said, "well it depends on getting the parts, and if the car allows us to do the repairs". That started a whole different conversation that I don't have the time to get into. I am working 7 AM to 7 AM tomorrow, so I hope my wife can pick it up and that it is done. Oh, and that my wife still goes on the trip with me when she pays for the repairs!
I will let you know what the original problems was, and any others that they may find.
