Sounds like a regular 89 and not a ZR1.

I believe the first ZR1 Corvette was a 1990, 6 speed.

Here's some info I found.

http://www.idavette.net/facts/89.htm

Also check the RPO codes, behind the drivers seat under the storage lid.

If it's a ZR1 it will say it in the codes.

That's your VIN number.. Not the Option code.

The RPO codes are under the storage lid behind the drivers seat.

Here's something you can tell him if he insists.

From the link...

"Production Totals include 84 Zr-1's Built, but not sold to the public."

Sorry for not clarifying ,the zr1 has an lt5 engine while the regular vette has an l98. Go to the for sale section and look at some of the zr1s for sale and look at the difference in appearance .

Highly unlikely that car is a ZR1.
As stated, they didn't begin production until 1990
And no ZR1 left the factory with an automatic transmission.

ALL ZR1 VIN's will begin with 1G1YZ, not the 1G1YY you show
The "8" in the VIN code you listed, is the code for the L98 engine which was not available in the ZR1.

So, your VIN proves it's not a ZR1

Maybe somebody put a ZR-1 emblem on it
