4l60e?
Are 4L60E's from different models interchangeable with Corvettes? Can I swap in one from a Caprice, Camaro, other car? I'll assume that the tail housing would need to be swapped, probably also the shaft. IDK

The tail shaft is 7/8 inch too long.. It would need to be shortened.
Some here have cut the shaft to length and installed the Corvette tail housing.

So is chopping the shaft the only way to make a trans from another model work in the Vette? Or is there a more civilized way to make it work?

Well, you could replace the output shaft by taking it all apart.
If you're going to go that far, you might as well rebuild it too.

Many people here, with a lot more experience with transmissions than me,do it all the time.
