LT4 or LS1 which to buy as 1st Vette

I wanted the LS1 when I chose my vette, but I didn't want a C5. The original LS1 has almost identical torque curve to the LT4, so you're really deciding on what generation of vette you want. Maintenance and aftermarket are the next big thing to influence your decision. Most tuners aren't interested in your LT engine. Ask them why

However, there is an entire car wrapped around those engines. That might factor in more to your decision.

I'll put it like this, when I searched for my car last year, this is the order I searched in:
LS7
LS3
LS6
LT4
I never even considered the LT1 or LS1. I just put the motors on there as it was easier than typing out the car itself. Couldn't afford an LS7 or LS3 and keep my DD. Looked at the LS6's and LT4's, and more specifically the GS. Finally "settled" on an LS6.
I had an '88 and loved the raw feel of the car, rattles and harsh ride and all. The C4's are fine cars but I wanted more creature comforts and aftermarket support.

I have owned lt4 and a ls1 .motor power they are fairly equal.if we are talking cars,c5 way better than the c4.unless you are compairing a c5 to lt4 grand sport .then i take the grand sport.in 98 i purchased a lt4 for 21k a 97 was 40k .for half the money i choose lt4.i dont think i helped you:d

99-02 6spd C5's are about the same money as a comperable condition/mileage LT4 now. The problem is, the new ones are making so much more power now, I don't see much edge in collectability. As said above, drive them both.
