tire size question
Have a chance at some tires that are 335/35/17 rears and 285/40/17 fronts, do you think these would be OK without any issues and how much wider is the 335 than the 315. Was going to go with 275 and 315 but these others are a great price.

Joe, selling you my CE wheels is off. You are contemplating in installing tires that are over the legal size rating for them making it illegal and unsafe. I will not be a part of this. 315 and 335 in tires require 11 in wheels. Ask Tire Rack. You need more info or at least better info before you cause some serious damage.

285/40-17 = 9.5" rim
315/35-17 = 11" rim
335/35-17 = 12" recommended rim

Illegal? I'd love to see a source for that.
I'm assuming we're talking 9.5" CE wheels?
Definitely not the right size wheel for that tire and IF you could find a tire store to mount them they'd probably look and wear like crap but I doubt it's illegal.

Ya gotta start being REALLY specific about this cause the numbers your using arnt 100% accurate and that makes the difference of them fitting or not fitting.

the stock 9.5" rear wheels are offset to the inside too close- they will run a nice big arc through the plastic fender liner. You need the ZR-1 or GS offset 11 inch ones.

My experience with oversized tires on wheel. Last year I tried the experiment of putting Summitomo 315's on my 9.5" wheels. The Summi's have a reputation of being a little smaller in comparison to say Goodyear, there was a pic on a thread that demonstrated this clearly.
I didn't have any real issues with them. They looked pretty decent, didn't slip and nothing bad happened. I did feel that on a relatively hard corner (street driving) that they would flex a little bit. I certainly wouldn't recommend this in any type of competitive driving situation.
The biggest observation came toward the end of their life. The tire wear was concentrated mostly in the center of the tire. The inflation was checked regularly so they weren't over inflated. I believe that the tires were pinched on the rim extending the center. Considering the tread depth on the corners, I would say that this shortened their life substantially. Not only that, but, obviously, I was not getting the full tire on the road. This means that the extra width did me no good whatever in terms of handling, in fact I probably had less tread on the road than the 275's I have on there now.
So, I imagine the same scenario would play for a 335 on an 11" wheel. While you may get these at a great price, their lifespan will probably be shorteras well as less effective. Now, if you don't drive her alot (mine is a DD) and you don't stretch her legs much, you'll probably be okay. My only other concern with 335 would be how is it going to fit in the wheel well? The 315 almost sticks out, and this with the smaller Summi's on a 9.5 wheel. I would imagine the 335 would extend beyond the well a touch. If you're okay with that, go for it.

I haven't installed my 335's yet so I don't know how far they will stick out.
Doesn't matter since they are race tires and won't see any street use.
