Default Keyless Entry

Has anyone installed a keyless entry?

I have a '92 and would like to add this feature (convenience) if it is available.

Can this be done as a DIY project or is it better to have a shop do it?

Is there particular brand that is best?

Thank you for responding. This forum is a great asset to all of us.

I have a Viper kit on mine and had Best Buy install it. I am happy with the results and bought the components to add control for the windows, hatch, remote start, and interior lights.

Is that viper kit the one you can run through an iPhone if you were so inclined...?

Let me say installing a aftermarket alarm system is not for the faint of heart in a C4.

I had one of the big box chains install it on sale after I first got the car many, many years ago. The sale included free installation. The installers had to work on it for 12 hours! They did a great job, and it worked perfectly, but they sure lost their shirt on that.

BTW - the VIPER died earlier this year and I decided to install a push-to-start system. It took me weeks! I would definitely leave it to the professionals.

I may be wrong but I think your 92 has this already. You should just need the key fob and program your car to it.

I have Bulldog. $40, works with my stock 85 alarm. It comes with a extra relay you can rewire to open the back hatch. Works great so far.

The factory system was available beginning with the '93 model year.

Installed a bulldog 4 years ago. No problems. Works well with the factory alarm.

I have the Directed Electronics valet 712t. I think they made the GM VKE1000. I had the VKE on my 89 the wiring is identical on the Valet 712t. but the Valet has a couple extra options..

I installed the K-9 Mundail-SSX my self in a couple of hours, I used the included starter kill relay for the hatch release and bought the door lock module. Of course I had to bypass the clutch safety switch and remove the vats system, but the factory alarm only goes off once in a while. I can supply the schematics and full instructions to anyone that needs the help.
